Beautiful burr elm bowl

First of all, I must apologise for the lack of updates on my blog recently - although I’ve been quite busy over the past few months, I never seem to have a camera close at hand!

This gorgeous burr elm bowl has been commissioned by a customer, who requested some photo’s of it being made. The top image shows hollowing in progress and below you can see it on the lathe. The thin walls are quite a feature and those edges are super crisp!

As with all my work, it’s been turned from a kiln dried blank, with shellac being used as a sanding sealer. Used in layers, it stabilises any rough grain and creates a glass like finish…

Next on my list is a large amount of rough turning, which includes some of the yew blanks from my last post. This time though, I will be taking photo’s!
