Rippled ash log

Here’s another blog post dedicated to a piece of wood I’ve found! However, this time I want to show how the natural grain structure of timber can create some amazing patterns…

This ash log has a fork (or crotch), which I intend to cut right through the center. As the grain separates form the heart to form both branches, amazing ripples are formed at this juncture. This can only be exposed if an accurate cut is made, passing through all the hearts at the same time.
