A quick tour of my workshop

I was having a tidy up recently and thought it would be a good idea to take a few shots of the workshop – in fact, I think these are the only photo’s I have taken since it was built, two years ago!

The workshop is nestled to one side of our yard, amongst a selection of outbuildings and a larger barn. Many years ago, we used to keep livestock, so now have some useful extra storage for my ever growing collection of bowl blanks and timber! However, my workshop measures about 8 meters long, by just under 3 meters wide – you don’t need a huge amount of space for woodturning.

Below, you can see the layout of the workshop. My work bench is where I do all the finishing and oiling, with the lathe positioned at the other end. Set up like this, I don’t get shavings all over pieces, which have just been oiled. My pillar drill is hiding in the corner and the band saw will soon be returning after a short stint in the barn.

At the end of our yard is the green barn. This is where I store my timber and do the chainsawing.  The second shot gives a glimpse inside the barn – as you can see, it’s not always as tidy as some of my blog posts may suggest!...

Part of the reason for the tidy up was to make a bit of space for a second lathe – in fact it’s sat in the back of my van, waiting to be assembled. If you’re interested to know what I’ve chosen, all will be revealed in my next blog post, including a full review and verdict….
